IOM Introduction :

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading UN agency in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice.

Learning Objectives :

The purpose of this internship is to provide the incumbent with an opportunity to further develop an appropriate level of professionalism in the field of migration.

Under the overall oversight of the IOM Chief of Mission, the intern will be responsible to provide support on the following tasks:

Research and Liaison

· Analyze data and information collected from various sources on migration issues concerning China and produce reports, briefs, presentations or other relevant documents as required.

· Provide inputs and suggestions for developing new projects or enhancing existing ones related to migration work in China, in line with IOM’s strategic objectives and thematic areas of intervention.

· Liaise and coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, academia, and media, to exchange information and identify potential areas of collaboration on migration matters.

Communications:

· Conduct media monitoring and analysis on migration-related topics and issues concerning China and the region, and report on any relevant developments, trends, or opportunities for IOM’s engagement and advocacy.

· Support the development and maintenance of IOM China’s social media platforms, ensuring that the information is updated, accurate, and user-friendly.

· Produce, edit, and disseminate high-quality and timely communication materials, such as press releases, newsletters, web stories, social media posts, videos, podcasts, etc., in line with IOM’s branding and editorial guidelines and standards.

Administration:

· Provide administrative support to the Chief of Mission (COM) and ensure the smooth functioning of his/her office.

· Manage the COM’s calendar, schedule appointments, arrange meetings, and handle travel arrangements.

· Prepare and review correspondence, reports, briefings, and other documents for the COM.

· Other tasks required by the Chief of Mission

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants to IOM internships must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

b) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Language Skills:

Fluent in English and Chinese.
