Language Teachers (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, and German)
Result of Service
Part-time language teachers prepare and facilitate lessons, consistently deliver high quality scheduled courses, maintain up to date learning material, and correct assignments in a timely manner. They administer evaluations as needed for learner progress, report attendance, and collaborate with others according to the agreed schedule. They complete assigned projects by the deadline and maintain quality standards. Part-time language teachers work collaboratively with the UNOV/UNODC administration team and receive positive feedback from clients and supervisors. Part-time teachers also monitor students’ progress and provide feedback.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in language teaching, languages, linguistics, or a related academic area is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years teaching experience in language instruction within the last eight years is required. Experience in working with adults in a professional training setting is required. Experience using video, computer and/or multimedia to teach language is required. Experience working in a multicultural environment as a team member is desirable. Advanced computer skills are desirable.
Expected duration
September 2024 through January 2025
The duration of each regular language course will be of 17 weeks, to be distributed as follows: 2 classes per week, 1.5 hours per class, for a total time of 51 hours per regular language course. Hence, regular courses are equivalent to 51 Language Training Service Hours paid at the rate of 50 EUR per hour. The duration of each language workshop will be of 16 weeks, to be distributed as follows: 1 class per week, 1 hour per class, for a total time of 16 hours per language workshop. Hence, workshops are equivalent to 16 Language Training Service Hours paid at the rate of 50 EUR per hour. The Language Training Service Hour remuneration covers preparation and delivery of courses, communication with students and administration team, grading of assignments and evaluations, administration of placement tests, keeping of and reporting on attendance reports, and attending coordination meetings, as required. Classes are held in the Vienna International Centre (VIC) or online, twice a week per regular courses and once a week per workshops. The UNOV/UNODC Language Programme administration team reserves the right to make any changes to the course delivery and schedule as needed for the overall benefit of the programme. Payment will be made for services, only when employed and only upon delivery of courses and/or workshops in each language during the Fall Semester 2024. Engagement will be determined based on number of hours required. Part-time teachers are paid at a fixed rate for the delivery of each regular language course or workshop. Payment is for the Total number of actual hours taught/worked will be divided in four (4) instalments. The contract does not include medical insurance nor pension allowance. Part-time teachers are hired per term. If the service delivered is satisfactory and depending on the demand, they can be hired for the following or future term. The United Nations does not guarantee any continuation of language courses or courseload from one semester to the next.
