Job Description

Main tasks:

As a “visa officer”: under the supervision of the hierarchical superiors (Consul General and Consul), you will organise the day-to-day operation of the visa section (managing visa assistants) with a view of efficient processing of all visa applications submitted to the Embassy. This will require you to be a point of contact for our external service provider (VFS) as well as other Embassies (regarding cooperation within the Schengen-framework).

Examples of tasks as a visa officer:

•Examine visa applications encoded by visa assistants (documents, possible fraud, …) and take the appropriate decision based on instructions;

•Report on visa trends (including statistics, fraud, …) to the hierarchy; 

•Participate in Local Schengen Cooperation meetings if required; 

•Follow, adapt and apply the new visa procedures when notified by the relevant authorities; 

•Take part in punctual evaluation of Visa Applications Centers; 

•Draft correspondence to applicants, authorities (internal/external), etc.
As a front office operative, you welcome and receive the frontline questions, requests and documents of Belgian or foreign citizens in the context of their visa applications. You represent the visa section while providing a client-oriented service. 
Requirements and Competences•Excellent command of Dutch or French (knowledge of both would be an asset)•Excellent command of English•Knowledge of Chinese would be an advantage•Being a citizen of the European Union or a Schengen-country•Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills•A great sense of discretion, professionalism and attention to detail•A capacity for analysis and synthesis•Good IT knowledge (Office 365)•Any previous working experience in government administration or with visa issues will be considered an asset

Selection Procedure

After a pre-screening based on CV and cover letter, the selection procedure will comprise an oral interview, during which the applicant’s skills and motivation for this position will be evaluated. The interview will also allow applicants to raise any questions they may have about the position.

Appointment to the position is subject to passing a security screening.

Practical details•Gross monthly salary: 19.340,00 RMB•13th month provided at the end of the year•22 days annual leave allowance•1 year local contract (renewable)•No allowances for housing costs or holiday transportation•Financial assistance will be offered in obtaining Chinese work permit if required•Estimated starting date: December 2024 (negotiable but no later than January 2025)
