Communications Coordinator 

Basic Function 

The incumbent in this position is responsible for 

  • Developing innovative and bilingual content for Yale Center Beijing (YCB) events and programs;

  • Assisting the Communications Director in developing the Center’s annual report by collecting, organizing and crafting needed program contents and media materials;

  • Understanding the communication methods of traditional, digital and social media, and assisting product promotion with multi-media methods;

  • Protecting and enhancing the brand and reputation of Yale University in China through traditional, digital and social media-related activities.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

Marketing and Content Development 

  • Creates and designs Chinese and English marketing and promotional materials and content for Center’s stakeholders, including but not limited to Yale University, Yale alumni associations’ events and programs, which includes developing pre-event announcements and invitations, post-event summary reports in various formats (Microsoft PowerPoint, Photoshop, Final Cut, etc.), regular newsletters, brochures and reports to multiple stakeholders for dissemination in traditional, digital and social media channels;

  • Assists with managing the communications workflow for the Center to ensure the seamless coordination and timely publication of bilingual information on the Center’s website, WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu, Channels, Bilibili, as well as other platforms;

  • Executes a comprehensive communication and marketing plan for publicizing the Center’s events and programs;

  • Files and maintains the Center’s media assets (pictures, videos etc.), and important records and documents.

Media Relations and Branding Management

  • Assists with managing the Center’s social media accounts and monitoring user activity and other metrics, with a focus on building quality ties with the Center’s target audience;

  • Collaborates with different departments of Yale University, including but not limited to the Yale Office of International Affairs and Yale School of Management, to develop, design, publish and translate content for traditional and social media to enhance Yale University’s and its Schools’ brand and reputation in China;

  • Supports the development and maintenance of key media relationships with both digital and traditional media, manage all media queries and requests;

  • Invites media to report center’s high profile events, arranges media interviews and manages media reporting afterwards for such events and interviews;

  • Assists in planning and execution of events, programs, exchange seminars and conferences;

  • Completes other tasks as required.

Skills and Abilities 

  • An understanding of Yale University, its schools, programs, history and reputation; sensitivity to Yale’s communications methods and strategies; ability to create a consistent and credible voice across various media channels.

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines; demonstrated ability to multi-task, to remain flexible, and to work collaboratively as a team player.

  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills in both English and Chinese.

  • An understanding of most popular communication methods and platforms to provide creative and high-quality content.

  • Ability to effectively cultivate and manage relationships both with internal staff and external partners, especially with media outlets.

  • An avid interest in social media and innovative content.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Communications, English, Film, Design or related areas;

  • Experience working in digital media, social media or video production;

  • Strong computer skills and literacy, significant experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint etc.). Applicants skilled in video editing software and operating of social media platforms perferred;

  • Open-minded, diligent, dedicated, persistent, responsible and efficient team player.
